Note: Pre-ground coffee beans will get stale quicker, which may cause it to lose its aromatic subtleties. Although we'd be happy to grind the coffee beans to your liking, we highly recommend our customers to grind their coffee beans just before consumption.
Coffee was introduced across the Indonesian islands by the Dutch in the 1600s, with the Dutch East India Company commencing exports in the early 1700s. Java was the pioneer in cultivating coffee, and its longstanding association with the crop is why coffee is colloquially referred to as "java."
Javanese coffees have traditionally stood out for their earthy, savory, somewhat vegetal, or herbaceous profiles, influenced by the local climate and the diversity of coffee varieties grown. A significant factor contributing to their unique character is the specific post-harvest processing method known as Wet-Hulling, locally termed Giling Basah.
We have found this coffee to be exceptionally intriguing due to its distinctive notes of tobacco, cigar, and baking spices. These flavors are uncommon in coffee and owe much to the wet-hulling process employed.
